Welcome
My approach to treatment is informed by psychodynamic theory especially attachment theory which has been substantiated by research to account for the quality of human relationships. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) informs my work on helping people to shift their anxious and self-negating thoughts and beliefs to more adaptive ones. Couple Counseling/Therapy has been shaped by the marital research of John Gottman and by Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, developed by Sue Johnson. Empirically validated, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples has a very high success rate for repairing couple distress. Before and after graduate school, most psychologists only have one or two courses in couples therapy. Since 2005, I have had extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples.
